pencil portraits

I have prattled on about my paper art as they are my favourite creations right now but i also do pencil portrait commissions. I dont feel as excited by them or that i'm very good at them but the people who commisioned them only said nice things so i guess they are ok!

Here they are in all their coloured pencil glory!

Latest piece

Having now created animals and male humans i decided to try a woman. I'm currently obsessing about wanting very very very long ginger hair! It's not going to happen as my hair is turquoise! Can't have it in real life then i shall have it in my art! it's not really going to plan but i shall finish this picture. It's a tricky thing when you get that 'its not working' feeling. Should i carry on or just sack it off and start with the next idea bubbling away in my brain? i do think it's worth persevering with this read head.

In love with my paper old man

Having attempted a David bowie i decided the next human would be a very hairy one!! i decided to make a picture of the things i love. I work with old people and have a fascination for things with history and also have a passion for beards!! i know that's an odd passion but its true! I love them with every part of my soul. Naturally the next piece of Art was going to be an old man. So here he is....

I love him!!!

David Bowie and other stuff!

After the death of David Bowie i decided it was a good time to try a human bean with paper!!! so out came the strips of paper again. It started off strong. The eyes being so recognisable i thought it would be pretty straight forward. I didnt want to do a classic image of him that everyone was recreating at the time so i chose a very plain but beautiful photograph as my inspiration. The face went ok then .......... bleurgh!!! it went decidedly south! i took photos of the start of the project then gave up! i did plod on and finish the picture but it will never see the light of day.

There have been other bits and bobs i have attempted. most of them are just practise or trials or playing but all essential in the learning progress.

Paper Art animal portraits

So here are some of the paper portraits i made for clients of their pets. This fabulous world of paper i have discovered works so well with hair!!! The more hair the better so the natural progression was to create dogs! I'm really pleased with the dogs i have created for people so far and i hope to get more commissions for not just dogs but cats and horses and birds! i guess sheep would be great!!! :)

Welcome to my paper Art

Welcome everyone/anyone to my new Art blog. Its time to start boring everyone with endless updates on every tiny piece of paper i glue to create a picture! There will be many spelling mistakes and far far too many exclamation marks!!!!!! but hopefully it will give you all a little nose into my life. it will also give me a place to share any inspirations. Be prepared to see endless pictures of my cat!!!!
To get started i'll add some work I've already created this year.

I'm starting at the beginning. i had a fantastic idea to make some art while playing around with quilling paper. i didn't want to use it in the usual way, making whirls and tear shapes is not my bag. As soon as i worked out what i wanted to do with the paper i had to decide what to create. British flora and fauna are always an inspiration to me and at the time i was beginning this journey i was trying to encourage more birds into my very bird-less garden. so naturally a bird seemed to make sense. sorry for the slightly rubbish pictures but you get the idea. the process is simple but time consuming. cut a 3 mm strip of paper to the required length, shape it,stick it on its side and voila many hours later a bird emerges!!

The fabulous thing about this art is the fact its 3D and as the light changes throughout the day the image becomes either less or more colourful! it's fun! but really hard to explain in words. to see it is really the only way to truly get what i'm prattling on about. i will over the next few weeks add better pictures to hopefully show off the process and the results. i hope you enjoy my blah blah blah.
